Doug Pepper Speaks About the Future of Publishing

Doug Pepper, President and Publisher of McClelland & Stewart, talks about the future of publishing in an e-book world.

The death of the book has been widely overstated. In fact, there is a resurgence in book sales. The web and e-books may give publishing a whole new growth spurt.

Doug Pepper, President and Publisher of McClelland & Stewart, believes the best strategy is to dive in and keep ahead of the curve, keeping a close eye on consumers’ evolving needs.

Books such as the Harry Potter series and Stieg Larson’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy have proven that hardcover books can still attract and hold the attention of young readers.

The web has given readers a tremendous impulse access to a library of books, and e-books have made it easier to read on planes, trains, and subways; or to take a trunk full of books to the cottage, lake, or chalet and every e-book will soon give you direct access to every book your favourite authors have written

Amazon has driven down pricing and made books more affordable than ever.
