A 360-degree process is a great tool for giving leaders clear feedback from their peers, employees and managers. It creates strong motivation and specific focus to improve skills and performance. Receiving 360-degree feedback is more comprehensive and less prone to individual bias since there are multiple perspectives. Furthermore, it is a powerful tool in the leadership development journey. SEEC offers the opportunity to get 360 feedback in the following programs: Management I: The New Manager’s Course; Management II: The Advance Managers Course and Leading with Impact: Leveraging Your Leadership.
In Leading with Impact, the Leadership/Impact® (L/I) is used to provide managers and senior leaders with unique insights into their personal leadership strategies — and the impact of those strategies on others’ behaviour and performance. L/I informs participants about their effectiveness along personal and organizational leadership criteria; Impact on others, in terms of the extent to which they motivate other people to behave in “Constructive” versus “Defensive” ways and “Leadership Strategies”, in terms of the extent to which they act.
In Management I and II, The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) is an individual development tool that is uses both self-assessment and colleague feedback to identify employees’ thinking and behavioural styles. By providing insights into their strengths and areas for development, it empowers them to embark on their own journeys to become better at and enjoy more of everything they do.
How They Work:
Both assessment tools gather feedback on each leader via two mechanisms:
The Self-Report Inventory: The leader describes his/her own perceptions of his/her leadership approach and how he/she would like to ideally shape and influence others’ behaviour.
The Description-by-Others Inventory: At least five of the leader’s peers, managers, and/or subordinates (chosen by the leader) provide feedback on the leader’s behaviour and effectiveness.
It only takes the participant and raters about 20-30 minutes to complete the on-line assessment.
Results are presented to participants in a comprehensive, confidential feedback report that includes circumplexes, bar charts, tables, descriptive text, and recommendations for improving leadership effectiveness.
As part of the programs the facilitator/coach will help guide the participant through the findings and enable them to develop an action plan with strategies and techniques to improve their leadership effectiveness. After the program, participants are encouraged to share with their managers in the workplace as part of their longer-term leadership development plans.
Leaders who are self aware realize that the key to being more effective is to seek feedback from others as part of their development journey. By accepting and acting on that feedback, they can then make behaviour changes to better support themselves and the teams they support resulting in a win-win for everyone.
